Plan ₿ Forum 2026, Day 1 in Lugano: what happened on 23 October
The opening panel with Lugano's mayor, Adam Back on Hashcash, a BIP 110 post-mortem, AI and self-custody talks, and what is on the Day 2 stream. Facts from the organiser's own posts.
The fifth Plan ₿ Forum opened on Friday 23 October 2026 at the Palazzo dei Congressi in Lugano. Below is what happened on Day 1, taken only from the organiser's own posts on X (@LuganoPlanB) and the official agenda. Where the organiser gave no detail, we give none. Times are Lugano (CEST, UTC+2); Moscow (MSK) is one hour later.
The opening
MC Joe Nakamoto opened the main WAGMI Stage just after 09:00, and the stage was streamed live. The opening panel, “Lugano’s Plan ₿ Update”, brought together Lugano mayor Michele Foletti, Pietro Poretti and Marco Dal Lago of Tether. Per the organiser, they reviewed four and a half years of Plan ₿ and set out its next phase. The organiser’s Italian headline quotes Foletti: “We must be masters of our own lives” (our translation).
Talks we picked from Day 1
- Adam Back joined Aaron van Wirdum for “From Hashcash to Bitcoin”, on Bitcoin’s cypherpunk origins.
- Protocol: Jimmy Song, Samson Mow, Knut Svanholm and others discussed “The Next Soft Fork: BIP 110 Post Mortem” (background: our BIP-110 post-mortem).
- AI: Elizabeth Stark joined Arsh Molu for “Bitcoin and AI: Why AI Needs to Be More Like Bitcoin”; later Jimmy Song spoke on “The Real AI Threat and How Decentralization Fixes It”.
- Self-custody: in the UTXO Room, BTC Sessions and theBTCmentor shared lessons from the Coldcard hack (background: our wiki page on the Coldcard incident); later BTC Sessions spoke on the WAGMI Stage about self-custody disasters.
- Culture: Saifedean Ammous and Guido Brera joined Silvia Berzoni for “Hard Money on Screen: Bitcoin & Entertainment”.
The organiser counted 80 speakers on 5 stages for Day 1. The evening closed with Proof of Rock live at the Mempool tent stage. We did not attend the talks ourselves and do not quote what speakers said on stage.
Day 2: Saturday 24 October
The WAGMI Stage streams live on Rumble again from 08:55 Lugano time (09:55 MSK). Among the sessions the organiser highlighted:
