Four days of Bitcoin in Seoul: a privacy conference, a bank-hall debate day and a Lightning market

bitcoin++ holds its first Korean edition on privacy on 5–6 November, then the Bitcoin Korea Conference runs on 7–8 November. Agendas, highlights and Seoul/Moscow times.

In early November Seoul hosts two Bitcoin-only events back to back. bitcoin++ Seoul (5–6 November) is a developer conference on privacy. The Bitcoin Korea Conference (7–8 November) follows, and lists bitcoin++ as one of its side events.

Seoul is on KST (UTC+9), so Moscow is 6 hours behind: a 10:30 talk in Seoul is 04:30 in Moscow.

bitcoin++ Seoul: "privacy edition"

It is the series' first Korean edition: two stages at Community House Masil in Myeong-dong, with a hackathon alongside. The published agenda has 32 sessions. A few to know:

Seoul / MSKSession
5 Nov, 10:30 / 04:30"Privacy is not a concept in Korea", Calvin Kim. The Korean language has no direct word for "privacy"; the talk looks at how that shapes Korean Bitcoiners
5 Nov, 11:00 / 05:00"CISA & Friends", Fabian Jahr (Brink): an update on the signature-aggregation proposal, which the talk lists as BIP460
5 Nov, 11:45 / 05:45"JoinMarket Feeder Coinjoins", Kruw (Wasabi Wallet)
5 Nov, 14:00 / 08:00"Silent Payments for Multiparty Wallets", Oleksandr Kurbatov (Blockstream Research)
5 Nov, 16:00 / 10:00"Privacy in the age of AI", Danny (IPF/Marmot)
6 Nov, 11:00 / 05:00"Who Defines Privacy?", Dan Gould (Payjoin Dev Kit)
6 Nov, 12:00 / 06:00"The bitcoin privacy tier list", stutxo
6 Nov, 15:30 / 09:30"The regression theorem of privacy", Adam Gibson (waxwing)

Three privacy tools in one sentence each {#glossary}

  • Coinjoin: many people combine their payments into one transaction, so outsiders cannot easily tell whose coins went where.
  • Payjoin: the sender and the receiver both add coins to the payment. This breaks the common assumption that all inputs of a transaction belong to one person. BIP 77 lets them do it without being online at the same time.
  • Silent payments: you publish one reusable address, but each payment to you lands on a new address that only you can link (BIP 352).

Bitcoin Korea Conference

  • 7 Nov: main day at COEX in Gangnam, starting at 13:00 Seoul / 07:00 MSK.
  • 8 Nov: talks at the Korea Federation of Banks building and Community House Masil in Myeong-dong, plus the Lightning Market, where vendors take bitcoin over Lightning by QR code.

The organisers say more than 800 people attended last year's edition.

Seoul / MSKSession
7 Nov, 13:10 / 07:10"How to Prepare for the Coming Quantum Computing Era", Stephan Livera (see our quantum explainer)
7 Nov, 13:40 / 07:40"Crypto Asset Taxes in 2026", Kang Jae-nam (MADE Tax & Accounting)
7 Nov, 15:40 / 09:40"Life on Bitcoin, No Borders", Daniel James, CEO of Wallet of Satoshi
7 Nov, 16:10 / 10:10"CBDCs and Bitcoin", Alex Li (Human Rights Foundation)
7 Nov, 17:10 / 11:10Fireside chat, Carl Dong (Obscura VPN) and Stephan Livera
8 Nov, 13:00 / 07:00"Pushing Adoption in Japan: What Worked and What Didn't", Teruko
8 Nov, 16:00 / 10:00"Whose Keys? The Third Option Between Self-Custody and the Exchange", Dea Rezkitha (Fedi)
8 Nov, 16:30 / 10:30"Bringing Privacy to Bitcoin L1 via PIPEs", Misha Komarov (see Shielded Bitcoin)
Note

Several day-2 slots are still "Topic TBA". The organisers say the schedule may change.

What we expect

Expectation, not a fact

The bitcoin++ agenda itself frames privacy as a cultural blind spot in Korea. We expect the Seoul talks to focus on everyday tools (Lightning, payjoin, silent payments) rather than protocol changes.

Both events are on our calendar and in Events.

Shielded Bitcoin: private payments on Bitcoin without a soft fork?

A new research proposal borrows Zcash's design to hide amounts and counterparties on Bitcoin as it is today. What it promises, what it costs, and what is still missing. Presented at three conferences this autumn.
