'How do I multiply my Bitcoin?' The risks explained
Why 'grow your BTC' offers are the most common trap, and how yield, leverage and lending actually work. Not investment advice.
Where 'yield' comes from
Bitcoin itself pays no interest. Any return comes from someone using your coins: lending them out, trading with them or simply paying earlier users with later deposits (a Ponzi). Higher promised returns mean higher risk.
Leverage
Borrowing to bet on price can wipe out the whole position on a normal-sized move. Most leveraged traders lose money.
Red flags
Guaranteed returns, 'doubling' offers, pressure to act fast, requests for your seed phrase, or an 'investment manager' you met online. Lending platforms have collapsed before (2022) and users lost their coins.
