What Is an ETF
A Bitcoin ETF is a fund that holds Bitcoin for its investors. Its shares trade on a regular stock exchange, like any stock. In January two thousand twenty-four, US regulators approved the first spot Bitcoin ETFs. This lets people get Bitcoin exposure through a normal brokerage account.
Shares, Not Coins
With an ETF, you own shares of the fund, not the Bitcoin itself. The coins are held by a custodian company on behalf of the fund. You do not hold any private keys, so you cannot send it on the network. ETFs charge a yearly management fee.
ETF or Self-Custody
ETF shares trade only during stock market hours, while Bitcoin runs all day, every day. Holding Bitcoin in your own wallet means full control, and full responsibility. Each option has trade-offs in convenience, cost and control. Learn how each works before deciding. This video is not investment advice.
