Forecast Sources
Everyone has a Bitcoin price prediction. But where do forecasts actually come from? Some analysts study old price charts and look for patterns they hope will repeat. Others build models, using things like supply, past cycles, or network data. Banks and research firms publish reports, and traders place bets on where price will go.
Why They Miss
In 2021, a widely followed model pointed to one hundred thousand dollars by December. Bitcoin ended the year near forty-six thousand. Bitcoin has only a few market cycles of history, so models have little data to learn from. News, interest rates and regulation can change everything overnight. Every forecast rests on assumptions. If one is wrong, the whole forecast falls.
Reading Forecasts
To read a forecast, first ask who is saying it, and whether they have something to sell. Then ask what it assumes, and over what time frame. Be wary of exact numbers and exact dates. Honest forecasts show a range of outcomes. This is education, not investment advice. What is the boldest forecast you have ever seen?
