One Secret Number

How does one secret number become your Bitcoin address? It starts with a private key, a huge random number. Elliptic curve math turns the private key into a public key. Easy forward, practically impossible to reverse. The public key can be shared. Nobody can work out the private key from it. The public key is hashed and encoded into an address, the thing you share to receive coins.

Signing

To spend, your wallet builds a transaction that says which coins go where. It signs the transaction with your private key. The key itself is never sent. Every node checks the signature using the public key. Valid signature, valid spend. Change one detail of the transaction and the signature no longer fits.

Why It Matters

Whoever holds the private key can sign. That is why your keys mean control of your coins. Your recovery phrase is a human-friendly backup from which your wallet derives its private keys. Never type it into a website or share it. No real support will ever ask. This is education, not investment advice. Did you know your key never leaves your wallet when you pay? Tell us below.
