Satoshi (unit)
In plain words
A satoshi, or sat, is the smallest amount of bitcoin: one hundred-millionth of a coin. 1 BTC = 100,000,000 sats.
Short definition
The smallest unit: 1 BTC = 100,000,000 sats.
Why sats
Inside the protocol every amount is an integer count of satoshis; “BTC” with eight decimals is just how wallets display it. Many people price small payments in sats, and the Lightning Network goes further with millisatoshis for routing fees.
The unit is named after Satoshi Nakamoto. “Stack sats” became a meme for saving small amounts regularly (DCA).
